In an effort to shift my momentum back to my WW lifestyle after a few weeks of holiday cheer, I made a deal with myself to start by simply tracking, honestly, everything I ate that was not a zero SmartPoint food. I feel the need to add the “honestly” part because there’s definitely a difference between tracking and tracking….Right?? Do you feel me?? Haha! I’m going to assume you do😊.
I know how to make healthy choices and my plan was to ease back sort of “naturally”. You know, just generally make some better choices and cut back where I could and I’d be back on track quickly. Right?
Ummmmmm…….All I can say about that strategy is….it doesn’t work for me!!! I should know this….I DO know this…..but I guess I suffered WW amnesia because I forgot! If I don’t do some pre planning, the Smartpoints add up soooo fast!!! Too fast. A little Chinese takeout with the fam here, a work lunch at Cooper’s Hawk there, some popcorn at my son’s basketball game……boom not only were my daily Smartpoints gone, but my weeklies were too and it was less than half way into the week😳.
Wawawa…….slide my pawn down the chute all the way back to Start!! No wonder my clothes were not feeling any looser!! A new approach was needed.
So as I mentioned in my last post, I sat down, thought about what really helps me to make each day the best it can be and I committed specifically to those few actions. A biggie for me is filling our refrigerator with fresh foods, and doing a little cooking. I like to look at recipes, then do my own, lower SmartPoint, version by doubling or tripling the zero SmartPoint ingredients like veggies and beans and cutting down the potion of higher SP ingredients like pasta, cheese, rice, etc. I enjoy healthy, low SmartPoint foods but if they are not prepared ahead of time, I’m less likely to make them at the time we are ready to eat. Honestly, I can say that about any kind of cooking…healthy or not! I prefer to prep food ahead of time, not when I’m hungry, or trying to get out the door or just got home and am worn down. So I really got on it! I made soup loaded with cabbage, tomatoes, celery, carrots, zucchini, onion and various beans, a spaghetti-type dish, again with lots of veggies, peppers, mushrooms, tomatoes, fresh garlic, light on the whole wheat pasta and finally a mushroom filling to use on corn tortillas with avocado for tacos de hongos. Yummy😋
It feels good to be more conscious and aware and last week went MUCH better. Having a plan makes me more mindful and reminds me I really enjoy lighter food choices and I enjoy how they make me feel even more! Am I going to make non optimal choices again? I’m sure I will. Quite possibly it will happen even before I write my next post! I’m ok with it because I know I will recognize it quickly and just get right back to it. Condemning myself is not option and it shouldn’t be for you either.
So the moral of my post today is: If at first you don’t succeed, try, try again!! If you re-started your healthy habits but have fallen off already, you’re not alone. Of that I’m certain!!! It’s OK! Don’t let it bring you down. This is a process and it takes trial and error to make healthier choices fit what’s going on in your life right now. Be easy about it. Jump right back in. Let’s have fun with it and look for the good. Recognize what’s not working and just try something different. Use it as data. This isn’t pass or fail. You are not good or bad based on your food tracker. Let’s remove the emotion we have tied to food choices and body size for so long. Life is meant to be lived joyously and we have so many reasons for expressing joy. Don’t waste any energy on shoulda, coulda, woulda. This is a new week and you get to make your own choices! Move forward. All is well😊
